In this episode, it’s Porsche 718 Cayman vs Jaguar F-Type Coupe. England vs. Germany. Why did Jonny have road rage? Why does it cost an extra $20,000 for an AWD model of a Jaguar? Does every famous person have a Porsche? Listen to this week’s The Pit Stop Podcast hosts Eli and Jonny to find out…
In this episode, Eli and Jonny argue about two luxury and sporty cars. The 2021 Porsche 718 Cayman vs. the 2021 Jaguar F-Type Coupe. Eli was on Jaguar’s side and Jonny on Porsche’s side. Jonny begins the episode by reliving the time when he almost got into a fight with a driver who merged into his lane. Jonny gave some history and details about Porsche and mentioned the Porsche 718 Cayman base model starts at $59,900 and has 300 horsepower, which makes the car go 0-60 in 4.9 seconds. The Porsche also has a 2.0 Liter Turbocharged Boxer 4 Engine. The Porsche Logo stands for “Coat of Arms of the Free People State”. Ferdinand Porsche founded Porsche in Germany in 1948, and the first Porsche ever created was called Porsche 550 Spyder. That particular car was later sold in 2012 for $3,360,000. The Porsche 718 Cayman has a top track sped of 170 MPH.
Then Eli began with the history of how Jaguar was started. The Jaguar name was introduced in 1937 in England with a SS Jaguar 2.5 Liter Sedan, the first 4 door sedan at the time. The founder was Sir William Lyons. In 1948, he built a Jaguar XK120, which hit 133 MPH and was the fastest production car in the world at the time. And then in 1951, the Jaguar C-Type won 1st place in the 24-hour race at Le Mans, and then in 1953 Jaguar won the 1st, 2nd, 4th, and 9th in the 24-hour race at Le Mans. Today Jaguar is part of Tata Motors which we spoke about in our previous episode, but All Jaguars are still manufactured in England. And the Jaguar F -Type that we’re talking about today has been around since 2014. The base model Jaguar F-Type starts at $61,600 which is Rear Wheel Drive, features a 2.0 Liter 4 Cylinder Turbocharged Engine which goes 0-60 in 5.4 seconds, and has 296 Horsepower. It also has a top speed of 155 MPH.
Eli also mentioned for an extra $140 Porsche can upgrade your tank capacity from 14.3 Gallons to 15.9 Gallons in the 718 Cayman but that will add weight to the car. Jonny mentioned that his favorite feature in the Porsche is that you have trunk space in the front where the engine usually is and you have some space in the rear as well. Both cars are Rear Wheel Drive, which both Jonny and Eli agree is how these cars should be driven. And in addition, the Porsche has a manual transmission whereas the Jaguar has an automatic transmission. Although Eli mentioned that for an additional $3000 you could get the Porsche with an automatic transmission. As an additional bonus, if you wanted to get the Jaguar F-Type in AWD, it would cost an additional $20,000.
The standard features on the Jaguar include LED Headlights, Backup Camera, Front and Rear Parking Sensors, 18 inches 10 spoke rims, Grained Leather Seats with Suede sprinkled in there, Memory Seats and 12-way electric seats, Navigation, Apple CarPlay, Power fold, and heated mirrors which the Porsche does not have, flush door handles, active sports exhaust which sounds fucking amazing, it gives me orgasms when I hear it because the active sports exhaust allows drivers to change the tone and character of the exhaust system so it sounds even better and meaner, Rain Ice and Snow Mode, interactive driver display which gives you a 12.3-inch screen as the instrument cluster, pollen filter, 10-inch screen, driver condition monitor so that if your falling asleep the car senses it and wakes you up, emergency brake assist, lane keep assist, and Jaguar has remote access so you can check your fuel level and lock and unlock your car and watch the car’s location from the app and from an apple watch. But Jaguar does not have keyless entry and does not feature a blind spot monitor on the base models.
Then Jonny mentions some standard features of the Porsche which include Brake Pad sensors, a Porsche tracking system in case it gets stolen, an immobilizer for when the car gets stolen, and a radar-based surveillance system. I suppose Jonny cares about his cars not getting stolen because he always mentions these features on every episode.
Jonny mentioned that in 2020 Jaguar sold only 1200 F-Types and Porsche sold 3700 cars in the US. Then in an attempt to defend the Jaguar, Eli mentioned all the things wrong with Porsche which are that when you try to customize both cars because they are luxury sports cars, you have many options for customization, however, with Porsche, it’s too much just like in the Range Rover, they charge you so much for every little thing. You want electric seats, it costs an extra $2300, you want the leather in the middle of the seat to be a different color, an extra $560, the steering column, you want to be leather, it’s an extra $610. Power folding mirrors an extra $330. You want clear taillights instead of Red, $740. TA smartphone compartment because your pocket isn’t good enough, an extra $560. Jonny attempted to defend every one of those options.
Then Eli mentioned all the famous people who had Jaguars which were: Simon Cowell has a Jaguar E -Type from 1965, Emily Rossum who is the main character in Shameless on Netflix, has a Jaguar F-Type, the car we are talking about today, Kelly Rowland from Destiny’s Child has an F-Type as well, Tennis Superstar Andy Murray has a Jaguar I-Pace, Patrick Stewart from X Men Professor X in a wheelchair has a 1996 Jaguar XJ-S. Harrison Ford from Indiana Jones has a 1955 Jaguar XK-140. The Queen herself, Queen Elizabeth has a Green S-Type. Jaguar got the Royal Seal of Approval. And Jonny stated that every doctor, dentist, and Actor/Actress, and Musician has a Porsche so there was no need to list them all.
Ultimately they took it to the polls where the people voted for the Jaguar F-Type with 50.5% and the Porsche with 49.5%. So in the end, Eli and the Jaguar had won this round.
